MISSION

The mission of FO is to develop and promote the sport of outrigger canoe paddling in the Republic of the Fiji Islands.


THE AIMS AND OBJECTS OF FIJI OUTRIGGER

The aims and objects of FO shall be:

(a) To be the sole supreme body governing outrigger canoe sport in Fiji;

(b) To administer outrigger canoeing (in competition or otherwise) it’s standards, safety, quality and reputation;

(c) To provide a medium of exchange of information among outrigger canoeists throughout Fiji and to enhance the fun and enjoyment of outrigger canoe racing;

(d) To assist, encourage, maintain and perpetuate outrigger canoeing in local, national and international events;

(e) To foster and promote the traditions and customs associated with outrigger canoeing;

(f) To assist in the training and development of paddlers (especially junior paddlers) and administrators;

(g) To affiliate with the INTERNATIONAL VA’A FEDERATION (IVF) or organizations seen to be governing the sport on a regional level;

(h) To undertake the organization of the WORLD SPRINTS or such events when held in Fiji;

(i) To ensure that environmental considerations are taken into account in all outrigger canoeing and related activities conducted by the Association and Affiliated Clubs;

(j) To maintain a set of rules for the sport (in accordance with IVF but modified for Fiji) that among other things, will ensure the safety of all those involved in outrigger canoeing;

(k) To extend the operations and teachings of outrigger canoeing throughout Fiji;

(l) To encourage international participation in local and regional competitions;
